Not so sure about a Tummy Tuck? Try the Belly Bandit

Read what a blogger on RealSelf (a site to find, share & discuss the real story about any cosmetic treatment) had to say about the Belly Bandit:

"Not so sure about a Tummy Tuck? Try the Belly Bandit"

"Mommy belly, mommy tummy, baby belly. There are plenty of cute names for it, but somewhere around 3 months after giving birth, you realize that the beaming pride you once felt for that belly bulge is now a source of unwelcome self-consciousness. No doubt about it, post-pregnancy belly is something that bothers all mothers--it's frustrating, hard to lose, and it often seems like there just aren't options for women who don't want to undergo the knife.

Redbook featured it [in] their September 2008 issue. The Belly Bandit is an abdominal compression wrap that was designed to help mothers as they try to "bounce" their bodies back (another euphemism, no?). Apparently, the Belly Bandit wrap "helps reduce bloating and uterine swelling, provides much-needed support for your fatigued back and legs, and even improves posture during breast-feeding"--and it's available in three versions:"

1. Belly Bandit Original ($45.95)

2. Belly Bandit Couture ( $55.95)

3. Belly Bandit Bamboo ($65.95)

"My initial thought (since I'm now over the "child-bearing years") was that it looks a bit uncomfortable--kind of a scaled down version of a weightlifter's belt. But it does seem to provide more support than your average Spanx. If nothing else, it's another non-surgical method to try and it may boost your mood if not, in reality, your belly." click for complete review on Realself.com

TV Show The Doctors - Belly Fat Quick Fix Secret: The Mother Tucker - watch the video

Quick summary of the show's segment:
Last Friday, The Doctor's had a segment on belly fat. They had Amy on the show. Amy is a mom who gave birth 11 months ago and she gained 30 lbs during her pregnancy. She is looking for a way to loose the baby weight without surgery.  One of the doctors says that loosing the baby fat is a huge issue for women and that the only way to burn fat is through exercise and diet. As a quick fix to look good in your clothes while trying to loose the weight, they feature the Mother Tucker, a compression tank that basically hides the fat. The mother tucker compresses three zones: the upper breast center, the tummy, and the sides (aka muffin tops).
Amy, the mom tester was present in the audience and she was wearing the mother tucker. She stood up and they showed a before and after picture side by side (the difference was obvious). When asked, Amy said that she likes that the mother tucker smooths her sides, that it can be worn with any kind of outfit and that she finds it comfortable.

The Mother Tucker is a compression Tank made by the makers of the Belly Bandit.
All the bbo mom's here (including me) love this product. We all actually wear it to work to keep bulge and muffin tops nicely tucked out of sight :-))) (ok secret's out)
Look your best this summer...give the mother tucker a try!

Free Fertilaid for Women - Hosted by Emily's Latest - Ends 3/26/2010

Emily is hosting our Fertilaid giveaway on her blog.

We are following her journey as she tries to conceive and start a little family. Our best wishes go to Emily and her husband and we hope to hear baby news from Canada soon :-)

Not long ago Emily did a very informative Fertilaid review. Here's a bit of it:

"Now, I’ve been taking prenatal vitamins since August of 2008, so I know the routine. I have mainly stuck to the generic version. One big, heavy, rock hard pill every morning. I’m okay with that. So what makes FertilAid different?
It’s more than just a multivitamin. FertilAid for Women is a preconception vitamin that contains all the essential vitamins (including the crucial folic acid), but also contains herbs that regulate the monthly cycle. Have I mentioned that my cycle is a disaster? I was between 31-34 days before my first pregnancy, but my last few cycles have ranged from 31-38 days. So this for me (and for many women with irregular cycles like me, or PCOS) has a lot of appeal. I did a little research on what’s in there. Let’s take a look at these herbs (click on the numbers for sources)
  • Red Clover Blossom Extract: Red clover is considered to be a phytoestrogenic herb, useful in restoring estrogen balance in women. 1
  • Siberian Ginseng: is thought to stimulate the immune system (and) to help the body better cope with stress, either mental or physical… Siberian ginseng is generally considered safe when used as directed. However, women who are pregnant or breastfeeding should not take Siberian ginseng.2 This is important to note. FertilAid does state on the bottle that it should be stopped when pregnancy is confirmed.
  • Vitex, or Chaste Tree Berry: acts on the hypothalamus and pituitary glands by increasing luteinizing hormone (LH) production and mildly inhibiting the release of follicle stimulating hormone (FSH). This results in a shift in the ratio of estrogen to progesterone, with a rise in progesterone.3 You can imagine how that would be helpful in regulating periods and helping with PCOS. Again, because of its complex hormonal actions, chaste tree is not recommended for use during pregnancy.4 Another thing to note is that this is not an immediate effect – it may take several months to really have an impact.
  • Ginkgo Biloba extract: I think this is included as it is believed to improve blood flow. Again, pregnant and breastfeeding women should not take gingko. 5
Okay, so you can see that these herbs might be beneficial to a woman trying to conceive. Regulating hormones, improving blood flow, reducing stress – all great for the wannabe mama. I’m kind of hesitant to trust in herbals – my Western upbringing includes a skeptic’s view of these things. Much as I like the idea, I find I don’t have a lot of faith. But I’m willing to give it a try.
The capsules themselves are pale green, very light in weight (easy to swallow), and made with a vegetable protein casing – which, as a vegetarian, I was very happy about (many pill capsules are made with gelatin, which is essentially made from boiling bones and hoofs. Ick.). You take one capsule three times a day, which distributes the vitamins more evenly than taking one giant dose once a day. Your body eliminates vitamins it can’t absorb, so it makes sense to me that a massive dose once a day is less effective than three smaller doses. I simply took one with each meal. I was worried that I’d forget to take them, but in a month (90 pills), I only missed four. Not bad. For the record, I did ask my OB/gyn for his opinion on multi-dose vitamins over single-dose, and he didn’t really weigh in one side or the other." Product Review: Go GaGa Gondola Diaper Bag goes to Ecuador

Right before my long awaited trip to Latin America I was asked to bring along a Go GaGa Diaper Bag instead of my regular diaper bag. Working for Best Baby Organics I get to test many fabulous products and this bag was no doubt a great item for my trip. The first two things I liked about my new Go GaGa bag were that these bags are manufactured by a FAIR TRADE Certified Company in Vietnam and also my bag was made from 72% post consumer recycled fabric.

I got the Gondola in Eggplant color. The bag has two insulated bottle pockets on the sides, which work great for me and my two thirsty toddlers. The interior of the bag is roomy enough to put 4-5 diapers in each of the two pockets, a pack of baby wipes, two changes of baby clothes + two baby sweaters, sunscreen, sunglasses, and more. There is also one large outside pocket on each side, which I used to put story books for the kids and magazines for the adults. But the one feature that makes this bag one of a kind is the strap, which can be worn cinched up with the comfy shoulder pad or spread out over your shoulder and upper arm.

I tested the strap during my long walks in airports while carrying a backpack on my back and the Go GaGa Bag diagonally across my torso, pulling a carry-on by the handle, and holding my child's hand (uff...I know!! ); and I must say that I really felt the difference when the strap was spread out over my shoulder. The shoulder pad is really comfy, but when you carry heavy loads you'll ultimately end up with that cutting pain that weighs down on your shoulder and neck no matter what. However, when the strap was spread out over my shoulder, the pain got dissipated. The load still felt heavy, but the pain was gone.

Also, because of its compact and modern feel, I can see already that long after our diaper days are gone, we'll still be using our Go GaGa to go places.

Words that describe my Go GaGa Gondola Bag:
* FAIR TRADE
* ECO-FRIENDLY
* COMPACT
* PRACTICAL
* STURDY
* DURABLE
* MODERN DESIGN
* ATTRACTIVE SLICK LOOK

So, I just got back from my family adventure trip to Vilcabamba, a peaceful tiny village in the southern part of Ecuador. Vilcabamba, "The Valley of the Ancients", is known worldwide for the longevity of its inhabitants, as many of them live past 100 years of age. Many scientists and theorists have visited the area in hopes of finding the secret to Vilcabamba's people's longevity. Some have said the nutrient rich soil or the region's water sources are the reason; while others have dismissed the claims as pure myths.

Regardless of the truth, we had heard so many great things about this place and wanted to visit for a long time. We finally got the chance to go this past October. I must confess that I was a bit apprehensive to go with our two toddlers (all of you with small children know how stressful traveling with kids can be, specially on longer trips). But we were really enchanted by Vilcabamba's peaceful paradise. What a magical place! If you want to really escape the world, be at peace with yourself and your surroundings, be as adventurous or as relaxed as you want, and explore nature at your own pace this is the place to go! --M.

Review and Celebrity Fans of the Belly Bandit

We found this Belly Bandit review on The Insider website. The review was posted by "Babyscoop" from celebritybabyscoop.com

"The Belly Bandit is designed to help women’s mid-sections bounce back quicker after giving birth. Essentially, the Belly Bandit is an abdominal compression wrap designed to help reduce the swelling of the uterus, decrease bloating caused by water retention, support the legs and back and provide additional support for breast feeding moms. The Belly Bandit can be worn snuggly around the waist as soon as the day after delivery. Wearing it after a c-section may actually decrease the post-op recovery time by minimizing associated incision pain, which allows greater mobility post-surgery. To reach maximum benefits, it should be worn for 6-8 weeks post delivery. I can’t wait to try out my very own Belly Bandit when my second baby arrives this October. I really could have used this after my first baby was born via c-section. It seems like it took forever to lose my SWUB (Saggy White Under Belly) - the Belly Bandit would have been the perfect ‘accessory’ post baby.
Celebrity fans of the Belly Bandit include Diane Farr, Tori Spelling, Halle Berry, Jessica Alba & Gwen Stefani."

Lukeeno Organic Baby Blanket - Mom Blogger Review

The beautiful girls from the Mkokopelli Blog have been quite busy this week looking for the softest organic blanket. We sent them one of our signature Lukeeno Organic Baby Blankets with hoodie and they had fun blogging about it:
"It is even large enough to take on picnics for your child's own personal blanket to sit on. But, mostly, I'd highly recommend this blanket for infants- especially in the Fall and Winter! It will really keep your infant warm and cozy while swaddled, plus the hoodie is the best. This would make the perfect baby shower or welcoming home gift. You can always take the blanket to be personalized and a name would fit perfectly on the hoodie." To read the entire review visit the Mkokopelli Blog.

What makes Kokopax Baby Carriers so special

Kokopax made its debut at retailers nationwide in late May with a range of fashionable and lightweight classic baby carriers, coordinating totes, sun hats and organic accessories.

The Kokopax Classic carrier collection is made of 100% cotton canvas and is available in six fresh and fun custom fabric designs including bubbles, buds, sailor, espresso, garden and licorice. The anodized aluminum frame and the comfortable shoulder straps adjust to fit the individual user. Other features include padded waist support, a pocket for extras, kickstand for easy loading, a 5-point safety harness, and ties to secure the pax protector (sold separately). The carrier weighs approximately 2.7 pounds and is suitable for children ages 6 months to 2 years, or up to 35 pounds.
The carrier has passed all voluntary testing required under the ASTM F2549-08 Frame Child Carrier standard. Kokopax is a member of the JPMA Frame Child Carrier Certification Program and is also CPSIA compliant.

We love the fact that baby is carried on a person's back. This feature gives so much more freedom of movement and ability to do more things around the house or going out with baby resting on the back. Also the kickstand feature is fabulous. Easy loading, easy unloading!! Another great thing is the pocket, which can be used to put a diaper and some wipes for emergencies.

Click here to see video of the KOKOPAX as featured on the NBC affiliate program, Wake Up With The Wagners. Watch the founder and mom tester, Teala Varga with daughter Katherine, demonstrate the ease and functionality of the carrier

Belly Wraps: Post-Pregnancy Hit or Hype?

We found a very interesting article on WebMd and wanted to share it with our blog readers. This article present us with the opinions of people who swear by the effectiveness of post-partum belly wraps and of those who are not fans of abdominal binding after delivering a baby. We are  Belly Bandit diehard fans!! but you can read on and come up with your own opinion:

Belly Wraps: Post-Pregnancy Hit or Hype?
Some swear belly wraps help them get their pre-pregnancy bodies back, but others don't buy it
By Denise Mann
WebMD Feature

Reviewed by Louise Chang, MD

"When Seattle mom Ashley Allman, 27, is invited to a baby shower, she doesn’t bring a cute onesie, a silver rattle, or any such traditional gift. Allman prefers to give new moms a gut-busting belly wrap.
Allman, a public relations executive, along with many celebrity moms, including Jessica Alba, have said that these abdominal compression wraps helped them get their pre-pregnancy shape back ASAP.
“I wasn’t using it for my figure; it was more to support my lower back,” says Allman, whose son is now 9 months old. She says she gained 45 pounds during her pregnancy, but by the time her son was 8 weeks old, she was back into her pre-pregnancy jeans. She credits a belly wrap because she wasn’t consciously dieting or exercising.
Is Allman on to something? Are these belly wraps really a magic bullet for getting your body back after pregnancy or just another get-skinny-quick gimmick?
Proponents say that these girdle-like garments -- which have names like the Belly Bandit and the Taut -- essentially shrink wrap the tummy and as a result may help reduce the swelling of the uterus, while supporting the legs and back. But others say that the only way to get your body back after pregnancy is by eating a healthy diet and exercising. Still others strike it in the middle by saying these belly bands may have a role alongside healthy eating and fitness.

Belly Wraps: New Name for Old Concept

Although today’s stylish and even eco-friendly belly wraps are trendy, belly wraps (also known as abdominal binders) have actually been around for a long time, says Donnica Moore, MD, president of the Sapphire Women’s Health Group in Far Hills, N.J. and an author of Women’s Health for Life.
“This is not a new thing,” she says. “Belly wraps were used for people with back pain because they increased abdominal support, which helped people with back pain get around better."
Jay Goldberg, MD, an obstetrician/gynecologist in Beverly Hills, Calif., says, "We have been prescribing abdominal binders for a long time. They have been used for tummy tucks and back problems, but with obstetrics these wraps help women recovering from a vaginal delivery or a C-section with their posture, abdominal support, and self-confidence.”
The gentle compression on the abs may help the uterus return to its normal size quicker, so new moms may get rid of their still-pregnant-looking-belly quicker, Moore says. “There’s nothing worse than still looking pregnant months after you have had a baby.”
Another belly wrap bonus: “You may feel more comfortable and may feel like moving more and the more you move and exercise, the quicker you get your figure back,” she says. They also make you look slimmer while you are getting slimmer. “Women rave about the bands holding the flab in and that does make you appear to be slimmer."

Although Goldberg recommends the Belly Bandit to his patients as part of a postpartum plan, he says the belly wrap won't help you get back your pre-pregnancy figure in a week. He says women can put it on after delivery and recommends they wear it for four to six weeks after delivery to reap the maximum benefits.
The bottom line? “If the cost won’t break the bank, they are not a bad idea,” Moore says.
Belly wraps cost anywhere from $20 to $50, depending on the make and model. They are not all one-size-fits-all, and women may need to buy multiple sizes as their girth decreases.

Belly Wraps: Buyer Beware

Some doctors, including Saul Weinreb, MD, an obstetrician/gynecologist in Baltimore, are less enthused about belly wraps.
“Belly bands don’t help you get your body back any better than any other body-shaping clothing that people try to use to get themselves into shape,” he tells WebMD. “Of course, when used, they may help you fit better into some clothing, but there is no evidence that your body shape can truly improve because of a belly band.”
Don’t be fooled, he says. “It might feel like it is working, but it doesn’t work. Diet fads have historically tried to use all sorts of clothing wraps and similar devices, but they have never worked.”
The best and only proven way to lose your baby weight and keep it off is to eat a healthy diet that is low in saturated fat and high in fiber and engage in regular exercise.
“No one thing will get you back to your pre-pregnancy weight,” says Manhattan internist Stuart Fischer, MD, author of The Park Avenue Diet. “You need a comprehensive program that is 50% food and 50% exercise, particularly post-pregnancy,” he says. “You can’t lose weight and maintain that loss without doing both."
“Belly wraps have no place in getting back into shape after pregnancy,” says new mom Sheryl Wilson, president of Fitnotic, a New York City-based pre- and postnatal fitness company.
Wilson says she understands how new moms could be tempted by belly wraps. “Your body hasn’t felt like your own for nine months, you are pressed for time, and when you see this wrap advertised saying it will suck in your gut and help you get back to shape, it’s appealing to think ‘if I strap this on, it will help.’”
But that’s just wishful thinking, she says.
“These wraps are no substitute for exercising and healthy eating generally in life or after pregnancy,” she says. They may actually do new moms a disservice. “We have to consciously work to strengthen and engage our core muscles, and we use less of our abdominal muscles when wearing wraps."
Don’t tell that to Allman and other fans. “They really helped me,” Allman says. “From now on, I plan to give belly wraps to all of my pregnant girlfriends.”

What is the best Belly Bandit Post Pregnancy Wrap?

From time to time we get this question from women who are trying to decide if spending the extra money for the premium Bamboo Belly Bandit is really worth it.

Without a doubt we always recommend the Bamboo Belly Bandit!

To reach maximum benefits the wrap should be worn day and night (only taking it off to shower) and at least 6-8 weeks post delivery. Because of this, you should really want to buy the most premium band available and that is the Bamboo Belly Bandit.

The Bamboo Bandit is just so much softer than the Original or the Couture Belly Bandit Bands.

Since the Belly Bandit is an undergarment that is worn in direct contact with the skin, you really want to have the best material possible. The band with the Bamboo covering is best because it won't rub against the skin and cause irritation (the Original Belly Bandit Band has no covering and it feels rough against the skin). Also, the Bamboo fabric is not only eco-friendly but it also naturally absorbs humidity and won't trap moisture between your skin and the wrap, like some other wraps may do. eeeww!

You have two color choices with the Bamboo Belly Bandit: Nude or Black
If you mostly wear light colored clothes, you should probably choose the Nude color. If you are going to be wearing black or dark colored garments then black may be a better choice.

As always you get FREE delivery on all Belly Bandits from Best Baby Organics and Happy Belly Shrinking!!
